Lene Grenager
- I use various approaches to compare the relationship between the liberty of the performers and the guidance I give as composer. This is an interesting problem, says Lene Grenager (b. 1969), composer and cellist, educated at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Grenager is preoccupied with how the personal voices of the musicians affects her compositions, whilst the nucleus of the work is hers alone. This has led to a great diversity in notation techniques and details in the various scores. Apart from that, she gains inspiration from several different areas. Garden Works for soprano and clarinet, for instance, is inspired by the gardening constructions around the Dome of the Invalids and the Military Academy in Paris.
The composer has participated in a number of courses and workshops with composer of international fame, like Iannis Xenakis and Louis Andriessen. In 1999-2001, she was a composition scholar at Agder University. She was presented with the Lindeman Award in 2001.
