Julian Skar
Julian Skar (b.1981) is educated at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Universität der Künste in Berlin with, among others, Asbjørn Schaathun, Ivar Frounberg and Daniel Ott as teachers, taking an in-depth study of electronic music and musical theatre. In later years, his artistic work has been especially focused on scenic work and new technology. He has collaborated with a good many people, and has received a long line of commissioned works/premières, in Norway and abroad. The opera ”KOK” for a libretto by Maria Tryti Vennerød had its première at Det åpne teater during April 2009.
Skar has for a long time been preoccupied with covering various styles and several fields. A particular inspiration from scenic art is noticeable in his latter works, which can be said to be moving ”out of score”, through an extensive use of oral composition, visual aids, computers as structuring means and co-operation with improvisational musicians.
