Rolf Borch

“The fantastic clarinet soloist Rolf Borch is playing what is impossible to play on a clarinet.” The words belong to the Norwegian radio critic and journalist Nina Krohn, describing a profiled soloist in Norwegian contemporary music. Rolf Borch (b. 1975), born and raised in Bergen, has his education from the Norwegian Academy of music.

In addition to mastering a broad classical repertoire, Borch has a strong commitment to contemporary music. The list of composers with whom he has collaborated is extensive, including such prominent figures as Helmut Lachenmann, Brian Ferneyhough and Mathias Spahlinger.

Borch’s first cd “Step Inside” was nominated to the “Norvegian Grammy”: Spellemann Award in 2007. A year later, Borch was awarded the prestigious Lindeman Award.

Apart from his extensive work as a soloist with several performances in Norway and Europe, Borch is a member of the fast-rising chamber ensemble asamisimasa. In 2009 he was opening the Ultima Festival constituing one third of the ensemble BOA, where he played along with soprano Tora Augestad and cellist Tanja Orning.

In 2011 we will meet Rolf Borch at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where he will preform Berios Sequenza IXc.
