Jenny Hval
Jenny Hval (f. 1980) might be better known by her musical alias Rockettothesky. Besides her work as a musician, she composes and writes both fiction and editorial texts. Even if Jenny Hval, alias Rockettothesky, for most people is known as a musician, her background is versatile. At the University of Melbourne in Australia, she studied performance art and creative writing. Later, she has studied literature in her hometown Oslo, where is now is doing a master’s degree.
On her MySpace-page, she writes on her MySpace page: “What began as a secret project of spontaneous monologues for my dead dog, Inka, slowly became a string of musical recordings of improvised melodies.” As Rockettothesky, she has released the albums To Sing You Apple Trees (2006) and Medea (2008) and the EP Cigars (2006). 2006 was her breakthrough year, when she was nominated to the Spelemann Award as Best New Artist.
Several texts by Hval has been printed in anthologies in Norway. In the fall 2009, her first novel is publishe by Kolon Forlag. She is also a freelance writer, contributing regularly to the literary magazine Vinduet and the daily Klassekampen about music.
