Prometeo

The Prometeo quartet consists in the violinists Giulio Rovighi and Aldo Campanari, the viola player Giallombardo and the cello player Francesco Dillon. The quartet was founded in 1993 from an origin in the Italian youth orchestra Orchestra Giovanile Italiana. The name Prometeo is an Italian variation of Prometheus, who stole the fire from the Gods of Olympus and gave it to the humans. According to the Greek Myth, this is how the humans learned to control fire. On the repertoire of the Prometeo quartet is mostly contemporary music. More known are perhaps the interpretations of the works by the Italian composer Salvatore Sciarrino. During Ultima they will do their second performance of, among other things, Quartetto no. 8, a commissioned piece written especially for the quartet Sciarrino. The Ultima Festival also contributes in the commission of the work, together with Società del Quartetto i Milano, the Aldeburgh Festival in Great Britain (where the première was held in May) and the MaerzMusik in Berlin.
