Christian Wallumrød

Christian Wallumrød (b. 1969) has been an active piano player, keyboard player and composer on the Norwegian jazz scene since 1992. After his studies, he manifested in the jazz community of Oslo, and was noticed in ensembles with, among others, Petter Wettre. He also wrote the commissioned work Eight Thirty for the Kongsberg Jazz Festival in 1994. One of his closest partners over a number of years has been the trumpet player Arve Henriksen. This resulted in a collaboration that has resulted in strong productions such as ’No Birch’ (in a trio with Hans-Kristian Kjos Sørensen) released in 1996.

From his self-titled Christian Wallumrød Ensemble came the productions Sofienberg variations (2003) and A year from easter (2005). In 2007 came The Zoo Is Far, this time with an expanded ensemble, including the violin player Gjermund Larsen, cellist Tanja Orning and Giovanna Pessi playing a baroque harp, in addition to regular partners Arve Henriksen and Per Oddvar Johansen. All the productions have reached an international audience through the ECM label.
