Christian Blom
Christian Blom (b. 1974) studied guitar in Minneapolis at the Augsburg College. From then on came studies in composition along with Morten Eide Pedersen at the Grieg Academy, where he was one of the first students to complete a master’s degree in composition in 2004. Blom now works as a freelance composer based in Nesoddtangen.
Christian Blom’s aesthetics are characterized by a fragile, rugged and direct expression. In all his works can be found strong contrasts and weak materials that are in ‘need’ of their surroundings in order to be meaningful.
His background in performance tradition, electro mechanics and composition has in the later years started merging. As a result of this, an interdisciplinary practice has surfaced pieces such as Couperins hode skulder, kne og tå and Al-khowarizmis mekaniske orkester. The latter can be enjoyed at this year’s Ultima festival.
