New Music Demonstration
A street demonstration, bringing everybody together interested in new forms of sound experience and artistic expression in the name of music in Norway at this moment. For the 13th of September, one day before the election and in the middle of the contemporary music festival Ultima, the Brussels based artist/composer David Helbich invites everybody who enjoys and practices new music to demonstrate in/at the streets of Oslo.
Why?
Demonstrations are normally seen as simply a means of political expression but they are also an effective way of bringing together people with common interests.
In our case, the interest in new forms of sound experiences and artistic expressions. We want to show – and see for ourselves – the enormous variety within new music. In addition to expressing our interest in new music, we will also uncover the people and structures behind artistic music production.
This demonstration celebrates the fact that the motivation to create something new cannot be limited by stylistic boarders. Another aim for the demonstration is to consciously keep the question ‘who is part of New-Music?’ open. Therefore, everybody is invited to take part! h3. How? We will use the form of a political demonstration with banners and megaphone and a walk through the center of Oslo.
As the representative of your own music, projects, organization, bands or simply as a listener of so-called new music, you might like to come with something visual, like a banner or any other sign. h3. Practical The best thing would be if the participating organizations, bands … create their own banners beforehand. Just in case however, we will provide material for banners an hour before the demonstration, so that everybody can make their own comment, logo or visual statement.
Since this demonstration aims to give a picture of the whole scene of new music in 2009 in Norway, we would be grateful if you would forward this call to people, organizations, projects, venues… who you consider to be part of “new music” in Norway.
