Frode Haltli took the initiative to commission a new concert for accordion and string orchestra after collaborating with Bent Sørensen in 2000. Simon Steen-Andersen, one of Denmark’s up and coming composers, has expanded his Study for String Instrument #1 to a version for string orchestra. Olav Anton Thommessen’s Rapid Clouds is described by the composer himself as a pastel in which harmony dissolves into melody. In Light, Håkon Thelin explores the physics of the stringed instruments. As a historical, not necessarily a conceptual, contrast, the TCO will also perform one of the so-called string symphonies by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
