Norwegian folk music meets organic contemporary string orchestra music from Italy.
At this concert, the assertion that there is a gradual transition between art music and folk music can be explored in all its nuances. Perhaps it is even a case
of reciprocal influence? Slåttemusikk , traditional Norwegian folk music, from the valley of Setesdal, performed by the Swedish fiddle player Daniel Sandén-Warg, is combined with works by Giacinto Scelsi, Iannis Xenakis and Salvatore Sciarrino, and performed by violist Garth Knox and the young Norwegian Ensemble Allegria under the direction of conductor Marino Formenti. Violist Garth Knox is a prominent figure on the international contemporary music scene, with a background from both the Arditti Quartet and Ensemble Intercontemporain. Ensemble Allegria consists of young Norwegian string players with backgrounds in the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Barratt Due Institute of Music.
