Guitarist, composer and percussionist Oren Ambarchi explores the guitar’s possibilities.
The two Australian composers and multi-instrumentalists Oren Ambarchi and James Rushford have collaborated on Wreckage, which will be performed for the first time by Ensemble neoN, with Oren Ambarchi on guitar. Ambarchi has been exploring the abstract sound qualities of the guitar since the end of the 1990s. He has collaborated with improvising musicians such as Evan Parker, John Zorn and Jim O’Rourke, and noise artists such as Otomo Yoshihide and Merzbow. Wreckage tends towards avant-garde and avant-pop, and the music is inspired by composers such as Morton Feldman, Luciano Cilio and Luigi Nono. Accompanying him on stage will be six musicians from Ensemble neoN, which comprises young musicians with backgrounds from the Norwegian Academy of Music.
