The Legend Christian Wolff and the trio Tilbury / Duch / Davies sets with harp, double bass, two pianos and hot improvisation.
Christian Wolff (b.1934) is the last surviving member of the New York School, headed by John Cage, who became a kind of mentor for the otherwise self-taught Wolff, along with Earl Brown and Morton Feldman. In the 1960s they experimented with works in the socalled openform, where the score often gives the musicians a free rein to improvise the musical content. It will be a musical master session when Christian Wolff takes his seat at the piano with the British pianist John Tilbury and his trio, Rhodri Davies on harp and Norwegian Michael Duch on double bass. At this concert we will hear some of Wolff’s newest pieces, including a piano duet where Wolff and Tilbury will perform Nocturnes (2007), a tribute to Cage and Satie. SpringThree and Exercises29 and 30 are both from 2011, while Exercises 18 dates back to 1975.
