Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen comprises ten movements, divided into two canons. They were written specially for this evening’s ensemble, Ensemble Recherche, which also performed this work for the first time at the Chamber Music Festival in Witten in 2008. Abrahamsen began to play the French horn at a young age, but gradually began to show a talent for composition.
He studied with György Ligeti, among others. In his early career he was a key figure in the Danish New Simplicity movement, which was a formed as a reaction to the complexity of the Darmstadt school.
