Panel Discussion about contemporary Music in the Present

When he took over as artistic director for Ultima, Luca Francesconi expressed his belief that, now more than ever before, one should try to understand one’s own time through music. In this salon the panel members are asked to discuss whether the development of musical expression is in time with its own time. They will discuss the different ways in which music already explains our time, and will raise questions about Francesconi’s viewpoint. Do we want music to raise social issues; is it just as much a question of what context the music is placed in, or is this a challenge for the listeners and music arrangers?
The discussion will be conducted in English.
