The Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK) will perform three classics from the 70s and 80s.
John Persen’s Orkesterverk II was originally written as ballet-music for a TV production. With lively elements of jazz and improvisation, Persen was one among the first to combine popular music with a more rugged, contemporary expression. Hungarian composer György Ligeti provides a backdrop for Persen’s experimental style. Ultima’s pianist in residence Marino Formenti is highly acclaimed for his interpretation of this concert. Tristan Murail’s Désintergrations for 17 instruments and tape is an early example of spectral music, where scientific analysis of the instruments’ individual overtone spectra informs the tonality, instrumentation, and form.
