Are you interested in architecture and music? Want to explore innovative building techniques in a hands‑on way? Join us to build the Ultima music pavilion—a circular structure set to rise in the heart of Oslo!

Just before the Ultima Festival 2025, we will construct a pavilion on Tigerplassen, in front of Østbanehallen. This pavilion will become a mini‑festival offering free concerts, sound installations, discussions, listening stations and more throughout the festival.

Practical information

  • Assembly: 8–10 September
  • Disassembly: 21–22 September
  • Choose either the day shift (08:00–15:00) or the evening shift (15:00–21:00)
  • Registration opens in August—stay updated in the Facebook event.

What’s involved?

  • The pavilion workshop serves as an experimental space during the Ultima Festival, after which the structure will be dismantled and reused.
  • We’ll be using the Cultura+ design system, created for circular construction to extend the lifespan of temporary structures. Developed as part of the Circular Prototyping Studio master's course at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO), in collaboration with the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH).
  • The pavilion will be built from reclaimed timber (“bluewood”) donated by the Viken County Council, drawing on Norwegian traditional construction methods designed for disassembly and reuse.
  • Inspired by the theme of the Oslo Architecture Triennale, “What if nature came first?”
  • Food and refreshments will be provided throughout.

Why participate?

  • Learn circular and sustainable building practices in a practical setting, guided by professionals and AHO students
  • Help create a venue for new music—built by and for the community
  • Enjoy a multidisciplinary, social and engaging project where architecture and music intersect
  • Support a greener festival future through reclaimed materials and reuse‑first thinking
  • Gain practical experience in building, dismantling and working with modular systems in urban spaces
  • Discover how architecture can shape encounters between people, music and the surroundings in the city centre
