Listen-Up!

Artists in conversation on how their music takes shape

Friday 19 September, at 11:00–15:00
Free

How is music made – and under what conditions? Which rituals, tools, and spaces do artists return to when composing, performing, producing or improvising? With whom do they collaborate, and what shapes their sound?

Listen-Up is a live “audiozine” that brings together artists from across genres to explore how music takes form today. The event is inspired by When Music Takes Shape, an Arts Council Norway research programme and publication that gathers scientific and artistic reflections on music-making processes and working conditions in contemporary Norway.

The event features a cross-genre line-up of composers, songwriters, improvisers, producers and performers, each invited to share insights drawn directly from their artistic practice. Our aim is to spark a broad, inclusive conversation across musical languages, generations and working methods.

Confirmed artists so far include: Jenny Hval, Anja Lauvdal, ONLY SLIME, Moe Chakiri, Susanna Wallumrød, Inger Hannisdal, Jøran Rudi, Sanskriti Shrestha, Viktor Bomstad, Berit Opheim, Solmund Nystabakk, Ivar Grydeland and NING.

Rather than formal panels or presentations, the artists will engage in self-led conversations guided by a series of open questions:

  • Where does your music take shape?
  • Which voices shape your practice?
  • How do you relate to your audience – or to the world around you?

With space for exchange, doubt and discovery, Listen-Up offers a rare chance to witness creative processes unfolding from the inside out.

The event is followed by a light lunch, where the audience is welcome to continue the conversation and meet the participating artists. Conversations will take place in English.
