Sound can be words, language, thoughts and feelings. But sound is also more than just that:

Whistling gusts of wind, lullabies, the whetted appetite when we hear the popping of fried pakora. Sound is also frustrations and handed-down tall tales.

Sound can fill us with both comfort and unease. Most of all, the power of sound lies in the stories it tells, whispers and screams to us!

Lyden av minner er lyden av hjem is a soundwalk experience located in Holmlia during Ultima 2024. By scanning QR-codes, you open up a map with a route that leads youthrough the soundwalk created by teenagers from Southern Nordstrand. The stops you will visit along the way have been carefully selected by each of the young artists. Each stop represents personal recollections, soundscapes, memories, yearnings, dreams and relationships.

The soundwalk will be the result of a workshop arranged by this year’s Curating Lab. During the workshops the young artists will receive tools and guidance by established artists to create a soundwalk about Holmlia. The artists holding the workshops are Hanan Benammar, Åse Ava Fredheim, and Mattias Cantzler. You can take the soundwalk throughout the festival period.

7 September: Workshop - The sound of play

Come explore sound through experimentation and play with different instruments on the playground. What is the sound of play? The sound of play is the sound of brass, bells, and playgrounds! Families with children are welcome to an open workshop held by Liv Øgreid on the square in front of Holmlia Kulturhavn between 13:00 and 15:00. Throw away all previous knowledge and join the game! No registration required, and it's free for everyone. The sounds created during the workshop will be recorded and become part of the sound walk at Holmlia.

The public is also invited to Holmlia on 14 September for a guided soundwalk, as well as a live radio show with SASUSU Radio and the teenagers who have been involved in this project.
