Ultima Context: Inside Einstürzende Neubauten

The apocalyptic post-punk sound of Einstürzende Neubauten emerged out of the ruins of East Berlin in 1980.

Since then the band’s creative-destructive energy has refused to burn out. Led by vocalist Blixa Bargeld, the group constantly set themselves new artistic goals.

Chris Bohn (aka Biba Kopf) – Editor in Chief of The Wire magazine – is one of the world’s leading experts on the group. As a young writer for the New Musical Express, he got to know the band in the early 1980s, and has closely followed their career ever since. In this revealing conversation wth Rob Young, he gives us the inside story and share his knowledge of the band, its members and music, and the Cold War-era Berlin that spawned them. The talk will include musical examples from across their career.
