Ultima is now an Eco-Lighthouse

This week Ultima received official confirmation of its certification as an Eco-Lighthouse, under the criteria for Green Events.

The certification marks an important step in our long-term work with climate and environment, and provides a clear framework for further action.

– After several years of systematic work, we are proud to be part of the community of Eco-Lighthouses in the cultural sector. As a festival we reach thousands of people every year – audiences, artists, and partners. Art can serve as both a role model and an inspiration in addressing one of the greatest societal challenges of our time, and we want to use this position to raise awareness of sustainability, says Torunn Forland Bjella, Project Manager of Community and Engagement at Ultima.

Ultima’s environmental work is rooted in the UN Sustainable Development Goals and includes areas such as transport, energy, waste, and the working environment. We are a member of the Green Producers Club, and we map greenhouse gas emissions systematically, with a particular focus on travel and transport.

The certification is not an end point, but a commitment to continuous improvement. Ultima will continue to develop initiatives that reduce our carbon footprint, while also strengthening the festival’s role as an inclusive meeting place and an arena for international collaboration.
