House of Mirrors was commissioned from Eivind Buene by percussionist Hans-Kristian Kjos Sørensen. In the unusual surroundings of the historic equestrian training centre at Akershus festning, Sørensen acts as the master of ceremonies who leads the ensemble through musical spaces marked by rituals and mysteries.

Listeners find themselves surrounded by the players, and escorted into a sonorous hall of mirrors where sonic pulsations, melodies, and the delicate sounds of percussion, cimbalom and triangle are reflected from all corners of the space.

Inspired by Selma Lagerlöf's Nils Holgersson’s book A Wonderful Journey through Sweden, Britta Byström’s Farewell to the Wild Geese mimics the sound and flight patterns of wild geese soaring across the landscapes of Sweden. With bizarre extended techniques the Korps echo the noise of geese flying and resting, honking and gathering around their leader.

The programme also includes Maja S.K. Ratkje’s work built on fragments of historical music for marching bands.
