Addressing climate change, Kringkastingsorkestret (KORK) invites you to a nocturnal excursion where both waste management and natural light phenomena are included as artistic elements and effects.

Recycling Concerto by Gregor A. Mayrhofer features a massive set up of objects that would otherwise have been thrown away but instead have been rescued and put to better use as musical instruments.

Kristine Tjøgersen’s Bioluminescence is a moving musical recreation of a perplexing natural phenomenon facing extinction. Fireflies spark up to find each other in the dark. When humans occupy more and more territory, the ambient light from our cities makes it harder for fireflies to find each other. The piece takes place in the dark; the musicians flash precise rhythms and movements with LED lights, choreographed to the pulsating language of the fireflies.

Moderating the concert, vocalist Maria Lotus joins in this idealistic mix, with her characteristic raw energy, and brutally honest lyrics.

Bioluminescence makes audible the delicate wonder of nature. I was thrilled by the inventive sounds of this young Norwegian composer. She is combining nature, music and innovative visual staging in a way no other contemporary composer has done before. Also in terms of compositional tools. Data from the fireflies' activity is also used as melodic and rhythmic structures in the composition. This piece had links to her Nattliv, a piece performed by Cikadaa few days ago. I was almost moved to tears by how beautiful these little fireflies are. I’ll never leavethelightson at nightagain!

Plastic fantastic

Singing Plastic is a bold statement reminding us of all the resources that we carelessly cast aside, and how music and creativity point the way forward to a more sustainable future for the planet. Vivi took my breath away with her giant plastic bottle marimba. Real alchemy, extracting beauty from trash. KORK must be one of the most adventurous orchestras around– throwing bottle caps on their instruments and bringing their own shakers. Once heard, never forgotten.
